Lives and works in Los Angeles
Liat Yossifor (b.1974) makes processed based and performative paintings that are monochromatic and tactile. Yossifor's early work of monochromatic portraits of soldiers evolved into her current bodily abstractions. Her paintings are physical, pictorial, and optical; their surfaces and crevices bear witness to a passage of action. Yossifor grew up in Israel and immigrated to the United States in 1989. She received her BFA from the San Francisco Art Institute in 1996, and her MFA from the University of California, Irvine, in 2002. She was a resident at the Frankfurter Kunstverein, Germany, as a guest of the Deutsche Börse Residency Program in 2010.
